DSG Introduction In simple terms, the DSG gearbox could be compared with two separate manual gearboxes contained within one transmission housing. In here a dual-clutch setup (simply two independent clutches) is electronically-hydraulic controlled for fully automatic clutch and shifting operation.
A DSG airsoft have much higher firerate than a standard AEG. DSG stands for Dual Sector Gear, which allows the airsoft gun to increase the firerate. This happen because a dual sector gear have more teeth than a standard one.

DSG airsoft gun is actually the same as a standard airsoft gun except the sector gear. A normal airsoft gun have a sector gear which rotate and pull the spring backward and release it so it can push can push the BBs out of the barrel. We often call it as SSG (singel sector gear) since it only have teeth at one side.
A standard sector gear looks like to gear that is glued or fused together and half of the gear has teeth, but as for DSG sector gear, it has teeth on each side. By doing this gives you advantage of having higher firerate since the sector gear can pull the spring and release it much faster.
For example:
A ssg would normally fire one shot after turning around once, while DSG would be able to fire two shots after turning around once. You see the picture? By replacing it more teeth give a huge advantage for CQB (close quater battle).
Dsg Gearbox
Here is a picture between a DSG sector and SSG sector. On the right you see this is a single sector gear because there are no teeth on the side, but if you look at the right, dual sector gear have teeth on both side.
If you are unsure sector gear is easy to notice because they are not like the other part inside the gearbox.
Sector gear only exist in AEG because they use a motor and gear to pull on the spring, and eventually release it and push BBs out. As for gas airsoftgun, they use pressure from the gas mag to push BBs out of the barrel.
Sector gear don’t have teeth all around since it need to be release at some point or it can put a huge amount of stress in the gearbox or the spring. By replacing with wrong part like a sector gear with teeth all around, it can break the internal or the gearbox because it keeps on pulling the spring without releasing it.
An AEG usually contain three types of sector gear: sector gear, bevel gear and torque gear. Each individual gear is different so uoi won’t be afraid of replacing the wrong on since they to fit perfectly.
Bevel gear are gear that alows the shaft to rotate on another shafts that are 90 degrees apart. If you look at the motor, on top of it there is a small bevel gear which is connected to it. Bevel gear is located inside the gun handling and receive the rotation from the motor.
Torque gear is placed between bevel gear and sector gear. On a torque gear, it use more teeth which make it easy for AEG motor to pull the heavy spring back and release.
Sadly no, the only benefit you achieve is firerate. The purpose of using sector gear is by pulling the piston backward and release and by adding a dual sector gear, this process goes much quicker.
FPS (Feet per seconds) indicate how fast projectile is traveling (in this case is the BBs), this is depended on strong spring, cleaning barrel, lube and tec.
To take full advantage of higher firerate the best way is to chance the gearbox.
Airsoft guns with high FPS need a strong spring, long barrel, clean barrel and etc. This topic is huge, but to keep this short, the barrel needs to be clean, replacing o-rings and using high-quality BBs.
On the internet you can buy used DSG, but never from manufactures. The only way to get one is by modify AEG gun because this is the only way. This happen because manufactures won’t take the responsibility if someting wrong happen to the gun.
After looking through several website such as Evike, Amazon, Airsoft master and etc. You can purchase a set of gear which contain bevel, sector and torque gear, but a set can cost up to $120. Therefore, I would suggest looking for only dual sector gear (if you know what to do).
Based on airsoft players that have custom made DSG guns need money because doing these upgrades require high quality gear. If you pick cheap or low-quality, it won’t last that long.
Just like other airsoft gun, they are only allowed to play in a private area or airsoft field. However, not every single airsoft field have the same rules as each other.
This depends on the environment (indoor or outdoor). Be sure to take a look at their website or ask the local what are the rules and if it’s okay to use gun with high firerate.
Let’s say you can use it in airsoft field keep in mind that using in close quater can be too much (since it fires a lot of BBs) so I would be careful using it.
Using DSG will double the firerate, but at the same time it will put huge amount stress on the spring and gearbox.This is the main reason why manufactures don’t produce these is that they have shorter lifespan. A stock gun are calculated to last longer since it doesn’t stress the gearbox.
By increasing the fire will eventually wear out the gearbox and piston (if they are not strong enough). That is why it’s important you do a lot of research finding high quality parts and to see if they are compatible.
Replacing parts, and fix it requires knowledge and experience and if this is your first time doing this, I wouldn’t do this. If something doesn’t fit or tuned properly, there is a high chance it can damage the internal components.
It’s always recommended buying a set for best performance results, and with a DSG build the gearbox need to be solid and need to fit perfect. Any mistakes in re-assemble your gearbox and other parts such as motor, spring, spring guide. Start digging and doing a lot research would be helpful.
Start doing this require both time and money to do, but as a beginner this would be overwhelming and perhaps spent a lot of money buying part that won’t fit.
If you are not confident taking big steps, there are other ways to do it.
By changing battery with higher voltage increase the input into the motor, this gives more power to the motor so it can spin much faster.
This method is commonly used for airsoft that has singel sector gear. This is cheaper because you don’t need to replace a stronger spring, gear which cut the cost. Once you replace these part you will notice a huge different performance.
You can use it but it will only work, but it won’t last longer than a standard because stock motor are not designed to deal.
First thing to do is doing a lot of research. You need to learn how an AEG work and what each components works. If you don’t know what they do, you will eventually hit a rock which stops you from building a proper one.
Spring – Having a hard and solid springs prevent your gun dropping FPS and going smooth so the spring will return back the standard position. If the spring is not strong it would eventually break because of the huge amount of stress.

Motor – There are three types of motor: torque motor, high-speed motor and a torque/high speed motor. What you need is a torque motor because you need to have high torque to pull the spring and gear.
Gear and gear ratios – This part is critial as the other, if you make a mistake, the gun would break itself. A set of gear cost a lot, but in return you receive parts that is compatible. Remember to buy high-quality gear or they won’t last. Brand such as Keen Sharps and Siegetek concept offer solid and reliable parts.
Battery – As for a torque motor it relies on a battery that can give enough power to spin. LiPo battery is the best option because they are compact, high energy capacity, making them ideal for many airsoft players.
Mosfet – Once you add a new battery , a mosfet is a must. This allows your gun to run on high voltage. A mosfet is almost like a switch that can chance the course between the trigger and motor in gearbox. By having a mosfet you remove two problems: prevent your gun to continously shoot on full auto after letting of the trigger or in semi auto. The second is
This prevent the trigger contact from any heat and resistance, and at the same time increase electrical efficiency.
Piston – A piston head is usally made either full metal teeth rak or half rack of metal and half plastic tooth rack. It’s important that the piston is light and full metal rack piston. Makes sure the spring can move/rotate freely inside the pistion with the bearings.
Piston head – The piston head should be plastic, and avoid picking up metal piston heads when building a gun with high firerate. To achieve full peformance, make sure it’s plastic and seals well. Here you can use your stock one.
Each AEG is different so there is no right answer how to do this. You would naturally occur problem like size of the battery, motor and etc.
In reality it’s not necessary to have a DSG airsoft gun. As a beginner, buying a standard AEG gun, and once you got the budget you can start doing this.
These parts cost a lot and as for a beginner it won’t be worth unless you know what you are doing.

DSG is a form of automatic gearbox developed by the Volkswagen group, so you'll see it offered across the VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda ranges.
It uses two clutches to change gears extremely quickly, making for imperceptible cog-swaps. The system is often accompanied by steering wheel paddles to change ratio manually.
How does a DSG transmission work?
The system uses two clutches to move up and down through the gears. As one clutch has the current gear engaged, the second clutch prepares the next gear for selection, significantly reducing shift times.
The driver can override the automatic selection of gears using the gearlever or paddles located behind the steering wheel, if they’re fitted.
Do I need it?
If you’ve got your heart set on an automatic gearbox, the DSG unit is one of the better versions available. Bear in mind though that, like all automatic gearboxes, repairs can be very expensive if the transmission goes wrong.
